A penetration test is a test performed to evaluate the security of a system. It is also referred to as a "pen test" and its purpose is to identify vulnerabilities that can be exploited by attackers. During the test, an attempt is made to break into the system in order to discover the weaknesses and report them to the owner of the system. A penetration test can be performed by a specialist company or by an internal security team.
